Husband and I are collecting as many pennies as we possibly can. These pennies, that we’ll spend years finding, will be made into something in the Forever House. Maybe a kitchen backsplash. Maybe a piece of the floor. Maybe I’ll cover an entire wall with them. Maybe they’ll cover the fireplace. Maybe the pennies will become a winding trail through the trees and flowers in the backyard, leading to a hammock and a Statue of David. Whatever these pennies become, we’ll look at them every single day and think of the years we spent piling them into vases and bottles and jars in the corners of our bedroom.

Husband and I are keeping an eye out for a nice hunk of land. On this land, we might have a little run down house which we might rent out. We might rent out this little run down house for a few years and then we might tear it down. Or there might not be any little run down house to begin with. But one thing is certain…on this marvelous piece of land we have yet to find, we will build our forever house.
It will be two stories with a red front door. On the front door will be a brass lion knocker and a brass kick plate. There will be a big front porch with a black chandelier and rocking chairs. There will be a round driveway with a vintage 5 arm lamppost in the middle. There will be a big garage with all the inside painted bright white with a restored super beetle and deluxe vw fan living inside. There will be a library and baby grand piano painted red. There will be handmade concrete countertops and exposed brick walls. There will be a pool table and french doors in the kitchen. There will be a brick fireplace and dark floors. All the door knobs and switch plates will be vintage relics and no two will be alike. There will be a chandelier in every room and big standing fans. There will be two staircases right inside the front door. There will be flower boxes and balconies outside every upstairs window. There will be a roof top patio like the ones we fell in love with in Key West…but you won’t be able to see it from the front…it will be a surprise. There will be a claw foot tub and a stuffed standing bear. Every window will have curtains and there will be a hammock inside. there will be a balcony from the stairs overlooking the kitchen. There will be dressing rooms instead of closets. There will be a basketball hoop and a vintage aluminum airstream on the side. There will be bougenvillas, sunflowers, magnolias, blueberry plants, topiaries, and the trees that look like Dr. Seuss drawings. The house numbers will light up like circus letters and there will be an arrow sign out front. There will be a pool and a skateboard ramp and an area to skim out back. There will be enough room for a great dane and lots of people of all shapes and sizes. Our house will never be empty. We’ll have all the holidays there and there will be so much love and happiness emanating from those walls, no one will ever want to leave. But we won’t ever have to…because it will be our forever house.
